i’ll make you a Descartes wager.
sit closer to the head of the table than you deserve, & if the Head exists, it will ask you to switch places with him that chose to sit further. if the Head does not exist, then you have chosen to sit at a table with no orientation, & you are an arbitrary point along the line that extends to nowhere, & approaches nothing.
choosing humus over ὕβρις is not easy, but since when were you a coward who took the easy way out?
since when did a man’s struggles increase his worth,
instead of what he emerged from his struggles with?
since when did pretending you have no weaknesses
actually make you strong?
since when did bagging on everyone else’s shortcomings
convince you that you’re innocent of the same faults?
since when did you forget that, after surpassing millions,
millions more are still watching you from the opposite direction?
since when did running a one-way race
matter more than living spherically?
since when did one human being
ever make it on their own?
how old are you, again?
what are you trying to prove?
or did you think you already proved it?
& who do you think cares to watch?
those whose ears have fallen off already, & have somehow found the patience to offer you their eyes as well?
maybe after you’ve returned to ash, there might still be ears to listen & eyes to watch & voices to speak of your legacy, only it wasn’t the one you intended to leave behind.
don’t waste the life you’ve worked so hard to create.
let your achievements speak for themselves, & be better — better than you were yesterday, because that is the only person you can judge.
