yeah, there’s Kony, there’s Dyilo —
but America’s got war criminals, too.
this day, 44 years ago — Mỹ Lai Massacre.
23rd Infantry Division, under 25-year-old college-dropout 2nd Lieutenant William Calley, massacred 500 unarmed women, babies, & elderly Vietnamese. When some of his men refused to kill, he took their weapons & shot the villagers himself. Participants included Gary Roschevitz, who forced 7 women to undress with the intention of raping them & shot them when they refused; Esequiel Torres, who tortured & hanged an old man because his bandaged leg looked “suspicious;” & Nicholas Capezza, the chief medic who “didn’t see anything unusual.”
5 days ago — Panjwai Shooting Spree.
Staff Sergeant Robert Bales crept off base at 3AM, then proceeded to kill 16 Afghani: 9 children, 4 men, & 3 women. He woke up sleeping villagers before shooting them, & most of the children were shot in the mouth before they were thrown into a single room & set on fire, an act of desecration under Islamic law.
i am a Vietnamese American student who goes to college in the United Arab Emirates.
